This IPA is not quite double the alcohol content as a standard IPA, yet the impact seems heightened by fullness and depth and concentrations of a variety of bitter and savory flavors. Hercules has notes of pine, wild sweet flower, orange and a rich caramel hop. It hits most intensely on the center of the tongue, but it is completely balanced.
It is full and heavy, yet far cleaner than its Trappist or Barley Wine counterparts. The brewery is located in Denver; many of the more interesting beer varieties seem to be springing up in Colorado and Nevada. At The Publick House in Brookline, MA, a 12 oz. snifter cost me $4, an outstanding value and thoroughly drinkable ale. Reviewed by: Christopher Bock |
